TDR is the acronym for Take Down Rifle, it is designed in such a way to be able to break down the rifle and carry it easier. Not everyone wants to carry their rifle over the shoulder in a long carry bag. The TDR rifle makes transportation a lot easier, especially if you pan on climbing to get to your quarry. Before the phrase TDR they were know as packable air rifles.

Air Rifle Parts

The basic parts of an air rifle are, stock, trigger guard, trigger, barrel, muzzle, moderator and sights. Usually on a take down rifle the stock and the moderator are detachable to make the rifle smalll enough to fit into a backpack.

Air Arms TDR

Air Arms do have a few model in their TDR range, the S410 TDR and the S510 TDR. (Average price of a used S510 TDR) The main differences (apart from the price) is that the older S410 has a bolt action to load the pellets and the S510 has a side lever. The S510 has a screw release for the silencer (and a shrouded barrel that makes it quieter than the S410) and the S410 has a quick release mechanism.

The biggest difference is that the S410 TDR comes with its own backpack to carry the disassembled rifle in. (Average price of a used S410 TDR)

Unfortunately the S510 comes in a rather large flat case, it is well made but the sheer size makes it unsuitable for transportation. This is a shame because the gun was designed with easy transportation in mind, if you could get the same case as the S410 then it would be the perfect solution.

The Air Arms air rifles break down quite simply, the silencer is removed and the the rear of the stock is unscrewed. When rebuilding there are 3 locating pins to help line up the rifle perfectly.

If it is a take down rifle you want expect to pay a little more than the regular air rifle because of the extra engineering that goes into the TDR. Whilst the TDR is in storage, never place anything on top of the backpack as this may damage the air rifle.
