The Condition Of The Gun For Valuing

Establish the condition of the gun, is it working? Would you describe it as “As new? Very good, Good, average, poor or spare parts only”
At this point you need to be realistic and honest with yourself as there is no point in misleading buyers. Check out our post on the average used air rifle price after analysing nine thousand listings.

As New Gun For Sale

If you are going to list your gun “as new” then realistically it needs to be just about perfect. This means no imperfections on the gun at all, no scratches or burrs anywhere on the gun itself. Be very careful if you sell your gun in the as new listing because buyers will be expecting perfection. A good air rifle like the Weihrauch 99S will retain its value because of the quality craftsmanship and consistent accuracy.

Very Good Gun For Sale

This is only a small set down from “as new”, so if the gun does have any imperfections on it please ensure that you document it. Take good clear photos and describe any damage that the gun has on it. If you know the history of the gun and how the damage took place mention it as well. If people can picture how the damage took place then they can create a better picture of what to expect. Listing a gun at very good you will be expecting top money and the buyers will be expecting value for money as well.

Average Gun For Sale

So the scale is coming down a little but still the buyer still wants to believe that they have value for money. Again be honest about any damage or imperfections on the gun and document them. If you know the history of the gun then include it, especially the year it was purchased, any previous owners etc. People love a story and it helps to sell. After all you want as much money as possible for your gun.

Poor Gun For Sale

You have a decision to make at this point, do you just want rid of the gun for any money. Or do you spend the time and effort to make it as appealing as possible to get a little more money for the gun? Perhaps post out the positives, such as it still shots true and accurate, great gun for a beginner etc.

Gun For Spare Parts Only

No matter what gun you have and are selling just for spares, someone out there will be looking. The is especially true of older guns, or guns that were not as common. Occasionally these spare could be worth a pretty penny so if it is an old or rare gun then do your homework before listing for sale. List what its fit for purpose and what is not, again if you detail the condition of each part then you are much more likely too make a sale on your gun.

To Sell The Accessories With The Gun Or Not

This can be a personal decision because if you decided to sell your gun to upgrade then if your accessories will match your new gun and serve purpose then keep them. The accessories when bundled together with the gun for sale do not always add that much value. At iHunter we have often seen the accessories cost far much more than the gun itself. Many a time we have seen basic cheap airguns mounted with telescopes sights worth several hundreds of pounds. We have seen some where the bipod is worth more than the air rifle itself, think hard and long as to why you are selling in the first place.

Comparing Gun Prices and Condition

At this point you can match it against other similar guns for sale on gun market Places such as Gunstar, Guntrader or iHunter. We have many a air rifle for sale on our online airgun marketplace so that would be a great place to compare.

Your Gun Is Worth What People Are Willing To Pay

People will normally make an offer so expect to build this is, the question as always will be what is the gun worth to someone else, not what is the gun worth. Only heartache will come from starting at the point of “what I paid for it” or I have hardly used it”. This is the same for any product, as soon as you have bought it the value has already dropped, for example take a new car, thousands have been lost before you even drive it off the forecourt.
Rarely is a product, object worth more to the second owner. Even if you don’t say second hand air rifle, the buyer already has that picture in their heads so be realistic in the price. There is no point in trying to break the price point for your particular gun and its condition as it will never sell. Used air rifles Vs new.
Over the last few years iHunter have valued many guns for customers via photographs and phone calls and even face to face for free. More
