arl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen is a German arms manufacturer in business since 1886. The company started as a gunsmith’s shop in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, Germany. It was initially run by Carl Walther and later by his son Fritz Walther. Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen was later formed in 1953 after the company was taken over by Fritz Walther’s son, Karl-Heinz Walther.
Walther began producing air rifles in 1898 and quickly became known for their high-quality and innovative designs. In 1908, Walther introduced their first air pistol, the Model 1, followed by the Model 2 in 1914.
During World War I, Walther produced many air guns for the German military, including the LG 51, a break-barrel air rifle used for training purposes.
In 1928, Walther introduced the LP 53 air pistol, which became one of the most popular air pistols of all time. The LP 53 was used by many Olympic athletes and was known for its accuracy and reliability.
During World War II, Walther produced a number of air guns for the German military, including the LG 55 and LGV series of air rifles, which were used for training purposes.
Civilian Air Rifles
After the war, Walther resumed production of air guns for the civilian market, and in the 1960s and 1970s, they introduced a number of new models, including the LP 3, LP 2, and LP 1 air pistols and the LGV air rifle.
