That fragmentation diminishes any risk of ricochet, which is especially appealing to those shooting at short range targets.
That significant weight contributes to a more stable flight and to the transference of force upon impact. As the pellet breaks apart upon impact, it loses its velocity almost instantly so theres virtually no chance for the pellet to exit on the other side.
