5 : Morningside Terrace, Edinburgh
Brief
- Small, almost insignificant front garden.
- The garden consisted of a subsided tiled path and uninteresting planting.
- The client was open to any ideas.
Solution
- The garden is very small so I decided to create a paved area with a dual function - the first of these being a path to the door and the second being a little sitting area for enjoying the garden and afternoon sun.
- Pots on either side of the door and an arch at the entrance of the garden defined the path and once the front gate was shut the path became part of the sitting area.
- A mature tree, climbing plants and tall planting surround the sitting area giving a courtyard feel.
- The arch, trellis pillars, and a line of Photina Red Robin act as a private screen between the road and the garden.
